The famous Bali Yatra of Cuttack in Odisha has begun. Chief Minister Navin Patnaik inaugurated the seven- day long festival this evening beside the bank of river Mahanadi. More than 1300 stalls, showcasing different aspects of Odisha have been put up in an area of about 37 acres of land. While adequate police personnels have been deployed to oversee law and order, people from far and near have started pouring in to be a part of this mega fair.
The Bali Yatra is celebrated to commemorate the voyage by Odiya traders to far off islands like Bali, Sumatra in modern day Indonesia and Sri Lanka, since the era before Christ till around the fifteen century AD.
